Last week, I had the privilege of being invited to talk the 'Careers with a Music Degree' event at City, University of London. City University is where I completed my music degree, so the place is very familiar. It was lovely to be asked back after such a short time away.
The event was surprisingly busy, and was set up to be a relatively informal 'open panel' consisting of seven guest speakers and an audience (the students). The speakers all had the opportunity to share information about their career paths, talk about their good and bad experiences, offer advice, and generate discussion. The students attending could also ask open questions to the panel. There was a small drinks reception afterwards where the students, unviersity staff, and panel members had the opportunity to mix in an informal manner.
I thoroughly enjoyed attending this event and the students gave plenty of positive feedback about the evening. I would strongly recommend any music student to attend similar events and opportunities at university.
